And the winning scarecrow is .........

We had great excitement in our school today when the winners of the scarecrow competition were announced. A huge thanks to Paul O'Donnell and Mr Curtin who had the tough job of judging the fantastic scarecrow entries. Each class put in a huge effort and you really have added a touch of magic and wonder to our garden!!

The overall winners!! Mr Lally's 4th class celebrate with their fisherman scarecrow!! They certainly caught the bait with their fantastic design and enjoyed a tasty pizza party in their classroom and no homework that evening!!

Ms Buckley's class were the 3rd class level winners and got sweets & treats for their whole class with no homework that evening! Well done guys! You put a huge effort into the recyclable materials used in your scarecrow even down to the scarecrow's beautiful eyelashes!!!!

Congratulations to Ms Keane's class who were the 5th class level winners!! They won a selection of sweets and treats for their class and no homework that evening. Their scarecrows have attracted so much attention in our garden and are very creative. Each scarecrow even has it's own passport!! Well Done guys, a fabulous creation!!!

Teachers having fun in our School Garden!!!!

All the teachers in MMOH SNS had fun in the garden on Wednesday 25th March.Paul O'Donnell a local principal in Meath gave us great advice and shared some wonderful and fun ideas and lessons that we can do in our outdoor classroom and garden!! Thank you Paul for coming to our school and for being a judge in our scarecrow competition!

We had great fun today putting up our scarecrows in the garden! Every class put in a huge effort and it'll be hard for our judges to decide on the overall winner! There will be class level winners aswell!!

Planting Potatoes on a Sunny March Day

The garden reps were very busy again today planting potatoes in our garden. We had lots of help from Luke and Chloe Farrells' Granddad Thomas, Dad Thomas and brother Rhys as well as Megans' Grandmother Nancy. Thank you so much for all your help!

Mr O'Cearra's class finish digging a trellis for our little fence. The fence will hopefully protect our daffodils and tulips from being trampled on !!!

Luke, Chloe and Rhys' Dad talk to our garden reps about the sprouts on our potatoes.

Thomas helped us dig a drill in our raised bed and then we sowed the potatoes!! They had to be an equal distance apart so that they will have enough room to grow.

We hope to harvest our potatoes at the end of June and bake some potato wedges for the whole school!!

Megan's grandmother Nancy came to help us with our garden. She loves gardening and spoke to us about what she has planted in her own garden.

Rhubarb Planting!

 Adam and Joe Humphries' Dad, Dave Humphries came in today to show us how to plant rhubarb.

Thank you so much for your expertise and all your help. 

The children loved your visit!

 Adam and Joe help their Dad plant the first rhubarb plant. We planted 7 rhubarb plants in total!

First, he dug a deep hole.

 Then they carefully removed the rhubarb from its packaging, making sure not to break any stems.

They packed in soil around the root so that the buds were just level with the soil.

 Then our garden reps were at hand with the watering can, ready to give the rhubarb a good soak.

 

We can expect some rhubarb tarts and crumbles in the Autumn!

Andrei found a lodger for Buggratty Castle!!!

A Roof for the Castle!

Mr. Kearney's secret past as a carpenter came in very handy on Friday. 

We built a fully functioning roof for Buggratty Castle!
